Obasanjo: Nigeria now ripe to have female president

The former Nigerian leader stated that the female gender should be given the opportunity to lead the country, as males have done since independence.

Obasanjo made the remarks during the 5th edition of the Egba Dialect Debate and Choral Competition for Secondary Schools in the Ogun Central Senatorial District, which took place in Abeokuta.

According to him, the country will only be able to stand strong and develop if power is passed down and shared equally among both genders.

“In my opinion, if we want the country to grow, we should consider both genders because a hand cannot carry a load to the head alone,” he said.
