The Ondo State Government said it had not relented in its efforts to rid the forest reserves in the state of herdsmen.
Governor Akeredolu had, about two weeks ago, asked herders who still want to continue doing business in Ondo State to register with the state government.
Some herdsmen who refused to comply with the government’s directives have been reportedly sent packing from the state together with their cattle.
The Special Adviser to Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, on Security Matters, Alhaji Jimoh Dojumo, said there was no going back on the order of the state governor asking the herdsmen to vacate the forest reserves .
He said, “We have set up a task force that is going into the forests to flush them out and they are making progress. We are still awaiting their reports to know what step to take next, but they are leaving.”
Similarly, the Commander of the state Security Network Agency, Amotekun, Chief Adetunji Adeleye also confirmed the development.
Adeleye said, “Our men are making arrests in the forests while some herdsmen opted to leave the forests and leave the state. We even escorted some of them out to the boundaries. We are flushing them out and it is a continuous exercise .”
