Warri-Itakpe: NRC announces suspension of service as train derails

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced the suspension of the Warri-Itakpe rail service after a train derailed at kilometre 30 Ajaokuta-Itakpe section of the track on Sunday.

The Nigerian News reports that about 300 passengers were stranded inside Kogi forest due to the incident on Sunday.

The incident was confirmed by the Coordinator of Warri-Itakpe train service, Sanni Abdulganiyu, who said security personnel were immediately alerted and deployed to the scene, although he said that no fatality or casualty was recorded.

According to the coordinator, “The Warri-Itakpe train service WITS 01 derailed at about 12:30hrs of January 22, 2023.”

He added that “The cause of the derailment is not yet determined. Due to this incident, the service along the corridor has been suspended. Further details would be communicated to members of the public”.
