Tinubu seeks EU support for Nigeria’s security, economic development

President Bola Tinubu called on the European Union on Wednesday to help Nigeria and Africa strengthen security and economic development in order to alleviate poverty on the continent.

The President spoke during a phone call with Mr. Charles Michel, President of the European Council.

The European Council is the EU institution in charge of defining the European Union’s overall political direction and priorities.

According to President Tinubu, addressing the continent’s excruciating poverty will necessitate the assistance and partnership of her friends and development partners such as the EU.

While requesting that the EU investigate specific areas of security concern, such as Lake Chad and coastal areas, Nigeria’s president promised to maintain contact with the European Union and other member states.

He stated that poverty and insecurity were top priorities for his administration and that he would go to any length to address them.

The Council’s President took advantage of the phone conversation to congratulate President Tinubu on his election.

He emphasized the importance of Nigeria to the EU and the international community while pledging the Council’s commitment to stronger cooperation and partnership with Nigeria based on mutual respect and common interests.

Mr. Michel urged Nigeria’s president to continue collaborating with the EU in all relevant areas.
