Soweto Gospel Choir beats Seun Kuti to Grammy Awards

Afrobeat musician, Seun Kuti, last night, lost in his first attempt to win a Grammy Award after being nominated in the best world music album category.

Seun Kuti who was nominated alongside Bombino (Deran), Fatoumata Diawara (Fenfo), Soweto Gospel Choir (Freedom) and Yiddish Glory (The Lost Songs of World War II) for Best World Music Album lost the award to South Africa’s Soweto Gospel Choir who won their third Grammy award, making them the most successful African group in the award’s history.

Seun Kuti attended the 61st Grammy awards in the company of his partner, Yeide.

He was nominated in the best world music album category but he lost to South Africa’s Soweto Gospel Choir.

Seun’s elder brother, Femi Kuti has been nominated for the Grammys four times, but failed to win in 2003, 2010, 2012 and in 2014.
