Police detain palm wine tapper over death of an octogenarian

Ondo State Police Command announced on Saturday that a man named Sunday had been detained in relation to the death of an 80-year-old woman in the state.

The elderly woman, whose identity had not yet been made public as of the time this report was filed, was discovered dead on her farm in the Costain neighborhood of Ore in the Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State.

Before her dead body was discovered on the farm, the deceased is said to have been reported missing a few days earlier.

Based on the location of the old woman’s corpse when it was discovered on the farm, it was learned that the locals believed that she must have been raped to death.

According to a source, the suspect, a palm wine tapper, was later apprehended by neighborhood kids after they discovered the deceased’s phone in his pocket. Later, they gave him to the police.

When contacted, Mrs. Funmilayo Odunlami, the state police public relations officer, confirmed the incident and stated that the suspect was already in the police system.

Yes, I can confirm that the suspect is in our custody; following the conclusion of the investigation, he will soon be charged in court, the PPRO said.
