Police Deploys 5000 Officers For Election In Plateau

Ahead of the forthcoming Presidential and National Assembly elections, the Police Command, Plateau says it has deployed 5, 000 personnel to ensure law and order during the two elections.

Mr Isaac Akinmoyede, Commissioner of Police in the state made the disclosure during news briefing in Jos on Monday.

Akinmoyede said the personnel would be deployed to various polling units, voting points and collation centres in the state.

“We have deployed 5,000 personnel for the forthcoming Presidential and National Assembly elections in the state.

“This is not to intimidate the members of the public or create anxiety, but ensure peaceful and successful conduct of the election in the state,” he said.

The Commissioner assured that the officers and men deployed would be highly professional and ensure level playing ground for all political parties.

He, however, warned that anyone caught violating electoral rules and breaching public peace would be made to face the full wrath of the law.

“Immediately I assumed duty in this command last Friday, I called meeting of my senior officers, within the command to discuss the forthcoming polls.

“I gave specific instructions that our officers and men on election duty must maintain high professionalism and will give all the political parties a level playing ground.

“But anyone caught trying to violate electoral rules and cause problems on election day will be decisively dealt with, ” he said.

Akinmoyede advised Plateau residents to conduct themselves peacefully and desist from of any act that would derail the electoral process.

He assured that the police would ensure safety of election officials, materials, local and international observers and all those who would be on election duty.
