The Senator representing Kogi West, Dino Melaye, has played down the tribunal judgement, invalidating his election as the winner of the February 23rd election, maintaining that there is no cause for worry.

The National and state assembly tribunal sitting in Kogi State had on Friday dismissed Melaye as the Senator representing Kogi West in the National Assembly.

The judgment came at the heels of a motion filed by his main challenger, Senator Smart Adeyemi of the All Progressive Congress (APC) before the tribunal ventilating his dissatisfaction with the process that brought Mr Melaye into the hallowed chambers of the Senate for the second time on a three ground of appeal which he cited as irregularities, over voting and non compliance with the electoral acts.

The controversial lawmaker in his reaction on Twitter shortly after the judgement, called on his supporters to remain calm as he will appeal the judgement at the Court of appeal.

The Kogi governorship hopeful also expressed optimism that the court of appeal will rule in his favour.

He added that though there will be an election in Kogi West to select another senator when he becomes the next governor of the state, he is not willing to allow anybody snatch the Kogi West mandate from him.

His tweet reads,

“On Tribunal judgement. No cause 4 alarm at all. Even if it went my way they will still go to the Appeal Court. Our mandate can not be taken. We will get judgment at the Appeal Court. There will be fresh election in Kogi West bc I will be Governor. For my Senate mandate no shaking”.
