The Primary Healthcare Development Agency and the Ministry of Education have agreed to embark on intensive tetanus campaigns across schools in Cross River State.

Dr. Betta Edu, the Director General of the State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, during an advocacy visit on the Commissioner of Education, Goddy Eta, stressed the need for the two agencies to collaborate on the exercise.

Edu, who noted that the State was prepared for another round of Maternal Neonatal Tetanus Elimination Week, said, “The Governor was committed to ensuring increased quality of life for the people.”

According to her, “the campaign will take us to 12 Local Government Areas in Cross River State including Yakurr. The Ministry of Education is one of our partners and we need your assistance to grant us access to persons within the age limit for the vaccines.”

“This administration would continue to support maternal neonatal tetanus elimination and elimination of other diseases that has increased neonatal mortality. We are striving to make tremendous impact on women and children and we implore the people to take full advantage of this intervention package,”She said.

She further stated that, “When I said we need your assistance, it is because the vaccines are targeted at students between the ages of 15 and 49 years. The second round of the exercise will commence in a few day that is from March 27 to March 31, 2019. So, we need all hands to be on deck to enable the agency succeed.”

Diligence
Eta promised to partner with the agency and urged community health workers to be diligent in their duties for the success of the programme.

He also promised to ensure that institutions across the State would be opened to health workers.

The Commissioner noted that, “a child that is healthy will live a super healthy life and will perform exceedingly in school.”

He also promised to reach out to traditional institutions so that others within the communities, especially women, can access the vaccines.
