A Federal High Court sitting in Maitama, Abuja has just disqualified Former Cross River State Governor and presidential flag bearer of the Social Democratic Party(SDP), Donald Duke as the predidential candidate of the SDP for 2019 election.
In place of Duke, the court predided by Justice Nnamdi Dimgba, has declared former Minister of Information, Professor Jerry Gana as the presidential candidate of the party for the coming election.
Recall that Professor Gana had immediately after the party’s presidential primaries held in Abuja, filed a suit against the party, challenging the candidacy of former Cross River State Governor on grounds of violation of the party’s rotation and zoning principles as entrench in it’s amended constitution, which zones the presidency to the North.
Duke is from the South, therefore, based on the constitution, it was argued that he was not qualify for the position.
The former Governor had pulled a higher vote than Gana during the primaries and was consequently declared as the winner.
