Super Eagles, Congo match: FG clears air on Ebola scare


The Nigerian Government has reaffirmed that the farewell to the World Cup match planned for the Super Eagles next week will still go on despite the reported outbreak of Ebola virus in DR Congo, the team the Nigerian side will face.

Nigeria’s sports minister, Solomon Dalung declared after a closed-door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari in the State House, that the government has no plan to call off the match.

According to him, instead of cancelling the match, machinery would be put in place for a thorough screening of the players before their take-off in DR Congo and upon their arrival in Nigeria.

He also revealed that the players will come to Nigeria in a chartered flight and nobody else will be allowed to arrive the country for the match through any other means except the chartered flight.It was further pointed out that the sports ministry is already collaborating with that of health to safeguard public health. Dalung also pointed out that cancellation of the match might be counter-productive.
